Pianist Bo-Young Kim

피아니스트 김보영은 예술의전당 음악영재아카데미를 수료한 후 예원학교, 서울예술고등학교를 최우수 졸업, 서울대학교 음대를 전체수석으로 졸업했다. 이후 미국 인디애나대학교 음대에서 석사, 전문연주자과정, 박사를 전액 장학금을 수혜하며 졸업했고, 오스트리아 빈국립음대에서 최고연주자과정을 졸업했다.


주희성, 박숙련, 김나정, Arnaldo Cohen, Jennifer Lim, Christopher Hinterhuber을 사사한 그는 일찍이 부산음악콩쿠르, 틴에이저, 음연, 음악저널, 음악춘추, 한국쇼팽콩쿠르, 국민일보·한세대, 성정난파, 한국리스트, 수리콩쿠르 등 국내 유수의 콩쿠르들을 모두 석권하며 두각을 나타냈고, 해외에서도 홍콩-아시아 오픈 피아노 컴피티션 1위, 파니 멘델스존 국제콩쿠르 1위, 비엔나 모차르트 국제콩쿠르 1위, 프란츠 리스트 센터 국제피아노콩쿠르 1위, 오르베텔로 국제피아노콩쿠르 1위를 비롯, 인디애나폴리스 마티네무지칼레 콩쿠르 2위, 클라라슈만 국제콩쿠르 2위, Gegen den Strom 페스티벌 콩쿠르에서는 3위 및 청중상을 수상하며 국제적으로도 연주력을 인정받았다. 만 11세에 금호영재콘서트를 시작으로 금호영아티스트콘서트, 이원문화센터, 영산그레이스홀, 영산아트홀, 티엘아이아트센터, 서울 예술의전당, 세종문화회관 등에서 다수의 독주회를 가진 이후, 미국 유학 중에는 인디애나를 중심으로 Landmarks Center 등에서 다수의 협연과 독주회, 실내악 연주를 가졌다. 서울필하모닉, USP오케스트라, 구리시향, Indiana University Student Orchestra, Orchestra Filarmonica del Mediterraneo 등과도 협연하였으며, 오스트리아 비엔나 Bösendorfer Salon, Gesellschaft für Musiktheater, Theater am Kurpark Oberlaa 등의 초청으로 개최한 독주회 및 이탈리아 Festival Pianistico Internazionale del Mediterraneo에서의 협연도 호평을 받은 바 있다. 독주 뿐만 아니라 실내악과 교수법에도 관심이 많아 인디애나 음대에서 반주법과 음악이론을 부전공했다.

2023년에 열린 International Friedrich Kuhlau Competition의 Flute and Piano Duo 카테고리에서 3위로 입상하며 실내악주자로서의 자질또한 입증했다. 서울대 재학 중에는 교원자격을 취득했고, 인디애나 음대에서는 2016년부터 2021년까지 Associate Instructor로 재직하며 피아노 실기와 그룹 클래스를 지도했다.


현재 서울사이버대학교 대우교수, 예원·서울예고, 계원예중·고, 덕원예고, 인천예고, 세종예고, 충북예고에 출강 중이며, 사단법인 PoAH 피아노연구회, 현대음악 전문연주단체 앙상블블랭크, 앙상블블루밍, 루체테피아노듀오, 듀오슈벙의 멤버로서 국내 유수의 공연장에서 활발한 연주활동을 이어오고 있다.

Pianist Boyoung Kim graduated with top honors from Yewon School and Seoul Arts High School after completing the Music Gifted Academy at the Seoul Arts Center. She earned her bachelor's degree as the valedictorian from Seoul National University’s College of Music. She then pursued her graduate studies at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University in the United States, completing her Master’s, Performer Diploma, and Doctorate degrees with full scholarships. Additionally, she completed the Postgraduate Concert Diploma at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna in Austria.


She studied under Heesung Joo, Sukryun Park, Najung Kim, Arnaldo Cohen, Jennifer Lim, and Christopher Hinterhuber. From an early age, Kim distinguished herself by sweeping major national competitions in Korea, including the Busan Music Competition, Teenager Competition, Eumyoun, Music Journal, Music Chunchu, Korea Chopin Competition, Kukmin Ilbo·Hansei University Competition, Sungjung-Nanpa, Korea Liszt Competition, and Suri Competition. Internationally, she has also garnered top prizes, including 1st Prize at the Hong Kong–Asia Open Piano Competition, Fanny Mendelssohn International Competition, Vienna Mozart International Competition, Franz Liszt Center International Piano Competition, and Orbetello International Piano Competition. She also won 2nd Prize at the Indianapolis Matinee Musicale Competition and Clara Schumann International Competition, and 3rd Prize along with the Audience Award at the Gegen den Strom Festival Competition, receiving acclaim for her artistry worldwide. Her performance career began at the age of 11 with the Kumho Prodigy Concert and continued with solo recitals at prominent venues such as the Kumho Young Artist Concert, Ewha Womans University Culture Center, Youngsan Grace Hall, Youngsan Art Hall, TLI Art Center, Seoul Arts Center, and Sejong Center for the Performing Arts. While studying in the U.S., she gave numerous solo, concerto, and chamber music performances centered in Indiana, including at the Landmarks Center. She has performed concertos with orchestras such as the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, USP Orchestra, Guri Philharmonic Orchestra, Indiana University Student Orchestra, and Orchestra Filarmonica del Mediterraneo. In Europe, she was invited to give recitals at venues including the Bösendorfer Salon, Gesellschaft für Musiktheater, and Theater am Kurpark Oberlaa in Vienna, as well as to perform at the Festival Pianistico Internazionale del Mediterraneo in Italy, receiving favorable reviews.

 Beyond her work as a soloist, Kim is passionate about chamber music and music pedagogy. At Indiana University, she minored in collaborative piano and music theory. In 2023, she proved her chamber music prowess by winning 3rd Prize in the Flute and Piano Duo category at the International Friedrich Kuhlau Competition. During her undergraduate studies at Seoul National University, she obtained her teaching certification, and from 2016 to 2021, she served as an Associate Instructor at Indiana University, teaching applied piano and group piano classes. 


Currently, she is an adjunct professor at Seoul Cyber University and teaches at Yewon School, Seoul Arts High School, Kaywon Middle and High School of Arts, Deokwon Arts High School, Incheon Arts High School, Sejong Arts High School, and Chungbuk Arts High School. She is an active performer as a member of the Piano Research Association PoAH, contemporary music ensemble Ensemble Blank, Ensemble Blooming, the Lucette Piano Duo, and Duo Cheveux, appearing frequently at major concert halls across Korea.
