피아니스트 신수정은 13세 때 해군교향악단(서울시향전신)과 모차르트 피아노 협주곡 제20번으로 데뷔했다. 

서울대학교 음악대학을 수석 입학 및 수석 졸업하였으며 국가재건최고회의 의장상, 대한민국 예술상 및 옥관문화훈장을 수상하였다. 1967년 빈 국립 아카데미를 최우수 학생으로 졸업하고, 1972년 미국 피바디 음악대학 대학원을 졸업하였다. 일찍이 이태리 부조니 국제 피아노 콩쿠르, 빈 베토벤 국제 피아노 콩쿠르, 독일 상공업 협회 장학 콩쿠르 등에 입상하며 재능을 인정받은 신수정은 1969년에 서울대학교 음악대학 최연소 교수가 되었다. 

그는 또한 NHK교향악단의 첫 내한공연에서협연하였으며, 코리안심포니 창단 연주회의 독주자로 초청되어 연주하였다. 50여 년의 연주생활 동안 그는 서울시향, 런던필, 도쿄필, 베를린 챔버, 뮌헨 챔버 등과 협연했으며 야노스 슈타커, 루지에로 리치,정경화, 정명화 등과 함께 실내악 연주, 독일 가곡 등 다양한 음악활동을 해왔다. 뿐만 아니라 뮌헨 ARD, 유니사, 더블린, 도쿄, 센다이, 하마마츠 등의 국제 콩쿠르 심사위원을 역임하였으며, 한국인으로는 최초로 2009년 리즈 국제 콩쿠르 심사위원으로 위촉되었다. 

경원대학교 음악대학장을 역임하였고 2000년 다시 모교인 서울대학교로 돌아와 2005년에는 서울대학교 음악대학 최초 여성학장으로 선임되었다. 현재 서울대학교 음악대학 명예교수이다.

Pianist Shin Soo-jung made her debuted at the age of 13 with the Navy Symphony Orchestra (Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra) and Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 20

She graduated summa cum laude from Seoul National University's College of Music and received the Chairman's Award, the Korea Arts Award, and the Okgwan cultural medal. She graduated from the Vienna State Academy in 1967 at the top of the class, and from the Peabody School of Music in 1972. Shin, who was recognized for her talent by winning the Italian Busoni International Piano Competition, the Vienna Beethoven International Piano Competition, and the German Federation of Commerce and Industry Scholarship Competition, became the youngest professor at Seoul National University's College of Music in 1969.

She also performed in the first NHK Symphony Orchestra's concert in Korea, and was invited to perform as a soloist at the inaugural Korean Symphony. During her 50-year career, she has collaborated with Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, Berlin Chamber, Munich Chamber, and has performed various music activities such as chamber music and German songs with Janos Stacker, Luzierro Ritchie, Kyunghwa Jung, and Jeong Myung-hwa. In addition, she served as a judge for international competitions in Munich ARD, Unisa, Dublin, Tokyo, Sendai, and Hamamatsu, and was the first Korean to be appointed as a judge for the 2009 Leeds International Competition.
