피아니스트 박숙련은 1999년 5월까지 미국 남일리노이 주립대학교 교수로 재직하면서 미국을 비롯하여 유렵, 아시아 등지에서 연주활동을 해오다가 귀국하였다. 연주와 더불어 인재양성에 있어 높은 평가를 받고 있으며, 특히 쇼팽콩쿨 우승자인 조성진의 스승으로 알려져 있는데 그 외에도 문하생들 중에는 국내와 국제 콩쿠르에서 우수한 성적을 거둔 학생들이 많다. 

서울대학교 음악대학 졸업과 동시에 도미하여 Eastman 음악대학에서 석사와 박사학위를 취득했고, 실기우수자에게 주어지는 Performer's Certificate를 수상했다. Aspen Summer Festival과 Salzburg Summer Festival에 참가하였으며 Saint Louis Concservatory에서 Artist Certificate도 취득하였다. 

국내에서는 코리안심포니오케스트라, 부산시립교향악단, 프라임필하모닉오케스트라, 이화스트링스 등과 협연하였으며, 해외에서는 폴란드의 Wroclaw Philhamonic Orchesrta,미국의 시카고체임버오케스트라, Milbrook Ochaesrta, Eastman Gibbs Orchestra 그리고 러시아의 Samara Philhamonic Orchestra와 협연했다. 뿐만 아니라 Beethoven Society 초청 독주회 등 수십 회의 독주회를 통해 “탁월한 테크닉과 함께 위대한 미와 힘에서 우러나는 심미안을 보여준 건반의 달인”(Robert Miller, Southem lllinoisan 평론가)이라는 평을 받았다. 실내악에도 깊은 관심을 가지고 자신이 조직한 Arete Trio를 이끌어 미국 전역과 아시아에서 순회 공연하였고, 다수의 박숙련&윤영화 투피아노 리사이틀 개최 및 독일의 Adellaide Cello Quartet, Pegasos Quartet, New Zealand String Quartet, 체코의 Stamic String Quartet과의 협연자로 국내외에서 연주하였다. 

한국에서는 특히 1994년부터 3년동안 총 6회에 걸친 강의식 연주회 <알고 듣는 피아노 음악>을 시도하여 많은 이들에게 긍정적인 인상을 심어 주었고, 그 결과 중 하나로 한국 작곡가들의 작품들을 방송용으로 녹음하여 호평을 받았으며, KBS FM의 한국의 작곡가 시리즈 CD에 연주가 담겨있다. 1996년 David Burge 저서 『20세기 피아노 음악(Twentieth Century Music)』을 번역 출판(음악춘추사)하였는데, 현재 그 책은 전국의 많은 대학의 문헌강좌 교재로 채택되고 있다. 뿐만 아니라 어린이 교습교본 시리즈인 [박숙련의 알고 연주하는 바이엘, 체르니, 소나티네, 콩쿨곡집] 등은 베스트셀러 인기교재로 각광을 받고 있다. 2001, 2002년 <이태리 Tivdi 하계국제음악제>에 초청강사를 역임했고, 2007년부터 2010년까지 <음악세계 여름 뮤직 페스티벌> 음악감독을 역임했다. 현재는 연천 DMZ국제 음악제 예술감독 및 콩쿠르 심사위원장으로서 활발히 예술영역을 넓혀가고 있다.

Southern lllinois 대학교 교수 재직 당시 학생들이 평가한 대학 전체 'Top 20인 교수‘로 선정된 경험을 토대로 국내에서 서울대학교, 한국예술종합학교, 중앙대학교, 경희대학교, 예원학교, 서울예술고등학교, 선화예술중·고등학교, 예술의전당 영재아카데미에서 후진 양성에 힘쓰다가 2005년부터 국립순천대학교 교수로 재임중이며, 홍콩 Asia Open Competition, France Campus International Piano Concour, 러시아 Young Asia Piano Competition 등 국제콩쿠르 심사위원으로 초청되어 활동하고 있다.

Sook Ryeon Park is one of the most active Korean pianists both as a soloist and chamber musician. Her international career has drawn positive attention since 1993 when she became an Assistant Professor at the Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in the United States. She has performed numerous concerts in the United States, Europe and Asian countries including Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Thailand, and Malaysia. She came back to her native country Korea in 1999 and has remained very active as a performer and teacher. Serving as a tenured faculty of the Sunchon National University, she has tutored many young aspirants across the nation. Among her prominent students, Seong Jin Cho has emerged as a Wunderkind, first prize winning the Chopin International Piano Competition (2015).

Dr. Park’s academic backgrounds were built in the most prominent institutions in the United States and Korea. She holds both Doctoral and Masters’ degrees from the Eastman School of Music with highest distinction and the Performer’s Certificate. Prior to Eastman education, Park earned a B.A. degree from Seoul National University. In between, she also participated in the Aspen Summer Music Festival, Salzburg Summer Festival, and the Saint Louis Conservatory of Music where she was granted the Artist Certificate.

Park has performed numerous concerts with many prominent orchestras including Wraclaw Philharmonic Orchestra, Samara Philharmonic Orchestra, Chicago Chamber Orchestra and Korean Symphony Orchestra. In addition, Park has performed some four scores of solo piano recitals on invitation. Addedly, between 1993 and 2000, Park led the “Arete Trio” touring many cities of America and Asian Countries.

In Korea, Park enjoys the firm reputation of the pioneer and master of “lecture recital”. Since 1994, she has led the movement of the audience-friendly classical music.

Since 2005, Park has dramatically broadened the realm of her activities, taking various positions such as judge of international competition and artistic director of music festivals. Notedly, since 2010, Park has been the artistic director of DMZ International Music Festival.
