윌리엄 그랜트 나보레는 미국 버지니아 태생으로, 8살에 피아노를 시작, 2년 뒤 저명한 음악학자인 앤 맥클레니의 특별학생 자격으로 홀린스 컬리지에 입학했다. 17세에 이탈리아 정부로부터 장학금을 받아 로마에 있는 산타 시실리아 아카데미아에서 따를로 제끼에게서 가르침을 받았으며 또한 저명한 피아니스트이자 교육자인 레나타 보르가티, 루돌프 제르킨, 죠지 셀, 알리시아 드 라로자에게도 가르침을 받았다. 그는 제네바에서 피에르 푸니에에게 실내악을 사사받고, 제네바 콘서바토리로 부터 최고의 비루투오소 상과 페데레프스키 상을 수상했다. 

20년이 넘는 동안을 제네바 시와 협력하여, 그는 브람스, 슈만, 드보르작, 베토벤과 슈베르트의 완벽한 실내악들, 거기에 더하여 프랑스와 러시아의 레퍼토리의 정수를 보여주는 곡들과 더 아마데우스, 탈리치, 가브리엘리 그리고 브린디시 콰르텟을 포함한 앙상블을 공연하였으며, 또한 컨템포러리 음악 스튜디오의 맴버로서 활동했고, 1988년에는 제네바 외곽에 아마데우스 페스티벌을 창설하였다.

나보레는 국제적인 콘서트 순회에서 미국의 문화대사로서 인정을 받으며, 산타 시칠리아 오케스트라, 스위스 로만데 오케스트라 그리고 뮌헨 챔버오케스트라와 함께 솔로 협연을 하였다. 그는 광범위하고 한쪽에 치우치지 않는 다양한 작곡가의 곡들을 연주했다.

뛰어난 스승으로서의 윌리엄 그랜트 나보레는 여러명의 훌륭하고 고도로 완성된 젊은 세대의 음악가들을 길러냈다. 1933년 그는 국제 피아노 협회 "Theo Lieven"의 창립 이사가 되었고, 2002년 마르타 아르헤리치와 함께 국제 피아노 아카데미 레이크 꼬모를 설립하게 되었다.

Theo Lieven 국제 피아노 기금은 독일인 자본가 Theo Lieven에 의해 세워졌으며, 20년이 채 되기 전에 세계에서 가장 높이 평가되는 음악 교육 기관이 되었다. 이러한 평가는 국제적인 경연과 시상에 나란히 우위를 차지해 온 학생들의  특별한 성공에 기인하며, 그들은 젊은 세대에서 가장 뛰어난 피아니스트들이라 여겨지고 있다.

이탈리아 북부에 위치한 이 학교는 일년에 오로지 7명의 학생을 선발한다는 특징을 가지고 있으며 까다롭게 선정된 학생들은 나보레를 포함한 세계적인 피아니스트 겸 교육자들 (드미트리 바쉬키로프, 푸 총, 메나헴 프레슬러, 레온 플라이셔 등)의 가르침을 받게 된다. 우리나라의 피아니스트 백혜선, 박종화도 레이크 꼬모 출신이다.

그의 가르침을 받은 제자들은 쇼팽 콩쿠르(율리아나 아브제예바), 퀸 엘리자베스 콩쿠르(데니스 코쥬킨, 세베린 폰 에커트슈타인), 반 클라이번 콩쿠르 (스타니슬라브 유데니치)의 우승자가 되었다. 한국인 제자로는 윤홍천, 벤킴 등이 있다.

나보레는 현재 스위스 루가노 콘서바토리 음악대학의 교수직을 겸하고 있다.

William Grant Naboré was born in Virginia, USA, and began studying piano at the age of eight. Two years later, he entered Hollins College as a special student under the guidance of the renowned music scholar Anne McClenney. At the age of 17, he received a scholarship from the Italian government to study at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome under Carlo Zecchi. He also studied with distinguished pianists and educators such as Renata Borgatti, Rudolf Serkin, George Szell, and Alicia de Larrocha. In Geneva, he studied chamber music under Pierre Fournier and was awarded the Premier Prix de Virtuosité and the Paderewski Prize by the Geneva Conservatory. Over the course of more than 20 years, in collaboration with the city of Geneva, he performed complete chamber music cycles of Brahms, Schumann, Dvořák, Beethoven, and Schubert, as well as masterpieces representing the French and Russian repertoires. He worked with ensembles including the Amadeus, Talich, Gabrieli, and Brindisi Quartets. Naboré was also a member of the Contemporary Music Studio and, in 1988, founded the Amadeus Festival on the outskirts of Geneva. Recognized as a cultural ambassador for the United States on his international concert tours, Naboré has performed as a soloist with the Orchestra of Santa Cecilia, the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, and the Munich Chamber Orchestra. His repertoire spans a broad and diverse range of composers, avoiding any narrow specialization. 

As a distinguished teacher, William Grant Naboré has mentored many exceptional and highly accomplished young musicians. In 1993, he became a founding director of the International Piano Foundation "Theo Lieven." In 2002, alongside Martha Argerich, he established the International Piano Academy Lake Como. The Theo Lieven International Piano Foundation was founded by the German entrepreneur Theo Lieven and, in less than 20 years, has become one of the most highly regarded institutions for music education in the world. This reputation is largely due to the remarkable success of its students, who consistently excel in international competitions and are regarded as among the finest pianists of their generation. Located in northern Italy, the academy accepts only seven students per year. These carefully selected pianists receive instruction from Naboré himself, as well as other world-renowned pianist-teachers such as Dmitri Bashkirov, Fou Ts'ong, Menahem Pressler, and Leon Fleisher. Notable Korean alumni include HaeSun Paik and Jonghwa Park. His students have gone on to win top prizes in major international competitions, such as Yulianna Avdeeva (Chopin Competition), Denis Kozhukhin and Severin von Eckardstein (Queen Elisabeth Competition), and Stanislav Ioudenitch (Van Cliburn Competition). Korean pianists such as Hong-Chun Yoon and Ben Kim are also among his protégés. 

 Naboré currently serves as a professor at the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana in Lugano, Switzerland.
