클라리네티스트 김상윤(1987년생)은 2015년 제67회 프라하 봄 국제 음악 콩쿠르 우승자로, UNISA 국제 콩쿠르 우승, 자크 랑슬로 국제 클라리넷 콩쿠르 우승, 겐트 국제 클라리넷 콩쿠르 입상 등 다수의 주요 국제 콩쿠르에서 두각을 나타내며 일찍이 국제 무대의 주목을 받았다. 프라하 봄 국제 음악제에서 사카리 오라모 지휘로 BBC 심포니 오케스트라와 협연한 무대를 통해 국제적인 인지도를 확고히 했다.

현재 두 차례 그래미 어워드를 수상한 미국 세인트 폴 체임버 오케스트라(The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra)의 수석 클라리네티스트로 활동하고 있으며, 2025년에는 비올리스트 타베아 치머만과 함께 동 악단과 브루흐 이중 협주곡을 연주하는 등 폭넓은 레퍼토리로 활발한 연주 활동을 이어가고 있다. 또한 2022년부터 미네소타 대학교 관현악과 조교수로 임용되어 후학 양성에도 힘쓰고 있으며, 2025년 가을학기에는 서울대학교 음악대학에서 객원 부교수로 재직했다. 세계 각지에서 마스터클래스를 정기적으로 진행하며 교육자로서의 활동도 병행하고 있다.

솔리스트로서 그는 브뤼셀 필하모닉, 도이치 캄머 오케스터 베를린, 인천시립교향악단, 부천시립교향악단, 성남시립교향악단, 울산시립교향악단, 광주시립교향악단, 프라임 필하모닉 등과 협연했으며, 2022년에는 원주시립교향악단과 함께 교향악축제에 참여했다. 이와 더불어 클리블랜드 오케스트라, 런던 필하모닉 오케스트라, 볼티모어 심포니 오케스트라 등 세계적인 오케스트라에서 프란츠 벨저뫼스트, 얍 판 츠베덴, 크리스토프 에셴바흐, 블라디미르 유롭스키 등의 지휘 아래 객원 수석 클라리네티스트로 활동했다. 

실내악 연주자로서도 활발히 활동 중인 그는 2021년부터 미국을 대표하는 말보로 음악제에 초청되어 참여하고 있으며, 라비니아 음악제, 맨체스터 실내악 음악제, 스타방거 국제 실내악 음악제 등 유수의 음악제에 초청받았다. 마르틴 프뢰스트, 장이브 티보데, 로버트 레빈, 에벤 콰르텟(Quatuor Ébène), 캘리도어 스트링 콰르텟 등 세계 정상급 연주자들과 긴밀한 실내악 협연을 이어오고 있다. 

김상윤은 10세에 클라리넷을 시작해 서울시립교향악단 전 수석 김동진을 사사했으며, 예원학교 재학 중 이화·경향 콩쿠르 1위, CBS 전국 학생음악콩쿠르 관악 부문 최우수상, 난파 음악콩쿠르 대상 등 국내 주요 콩쿠르를 석권했다. 2002년 금호 영재 콘서트로 데뷔했으며, 2005년 한국인 클라리네티스트 최초로 파리 국립고등음악원(CNSMDP)에 입학해 플로렁 에오, 미셸 아리뇽, 파스칼 모라게스를 사사했다. 이후 미국 LA 콜번 음악원에서 예후다 길라드 교수 사사로 아티스트 디플로마(전문연주자 과정)를 취득했다. 

김상윤은 부페 크람퐁(Buffet Crampon), 반도렌(Vandoren), 실버스타인(Silverstein) 아티스트이며, 클럽 M 멤버로 활동 중이다.  

Clarinetist Sang Yoon Kim (b. 1987), first-prize winner of the 67th Prague Spring International Music Competition in 2015, came to international attention early in his career through distinguished achievements at major competitions, including first prizes at the UNISA International Flute and Clarinet Competition and the Jacques Lancelot International Clarinet Competition, as well as a prize at the International Clarinet Competition in Ghent. He further established his international reputation with his appearance at the Prague Spring International Music Festival, performing with the BBC Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Sakari Oramo. 

Kim currently serves as Principal Clarinet of the two-time Grammy Award-winning Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra in the United States. In 2025, he performed Bruch’s Double Concerto with the orchestra alongside violist Tabea Zimmermann, continuing an active performing career across a wide-ranging repertoire. Since 2022, he has served as Assistant Professor of Clarinet at the University of Minnesota School of Music, where he is dedicated to training the next generation of musicians. In Fall 2025, he served as Visiting Associate Professor at the College of Music, Seoul National University. He also regularly gives masterclasses around the world, maintaining an active profile as an educator.

As a soloist, Kim has appeared with orchestras including the Brussels Philharmonic, Deutsches Kammerorchester Berlin, Incheon Philharmonic Orchestra, Bucheon Philharmonic Orchestra, Seongnam Philharmonic Orchestra, Ulsan Philharmonic Orchestra, Gwangju Symphony Orchestra, and Prime Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2022, he performed with the Wonju Philharmonic Orchestra at the Seoul Arts Center Orchestra Festival. He has also served as guest principal clarinet with leading orchestras such as The Cleveland Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, and Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, performing under conductors including Franz Welser-Möst, Jaap van Zweden, Christoph Eschenbach, and Vladimir Jurowski.

An active chamber musician, Kim has been invited to participate in the Marlboro Music Festival, one of America’s most prestigious music festivals, since 2021. He has also appeared at renowned festivals including the Ravinia Festival, Manchester Chamber Music Festival, and Stavanger International Chamber Music Festival. He continues to collaborate closely with world-class artists and ensembles such as Martin Fröst, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Robert Levin, Quatuor Ébène, and the Calidore String Quartet. 

Kim began studying the clarinet at the age of ten with Dong-Jin Kim, former Principal Clarinet of the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra. While attending Yewon School, he won numerous major national competitions in Korea, including first prize at the Ewha & Kyunghyang Music Competition, the Grand Prize in the wind division of the CBS National Student Music Competition, and the Grand Prize at the Nanpa Music Competition. He made his debut at the Kumho Prodigy Concert in 2002 and, in 2005, became the first Korean clarinetist admitted to the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, where he studied with Florent Héau, Michel Arrignon, and Pascal Moraguès. He later earned an Artist Diploma from the Colburn Conservatory of Music in Los Angeles, studying with Yehuda Gilad.
