우리나라 바이올린 계를 두 어깨에 짊어지고 있는 작은 거인이다. 바이올린 연주자가 할 수 있는 모든 영역을 빠짐없이 섭렵하느라 그 누구보다도 바쁜 나날을 보내고 있다. 해마다 독주회와 협연무대만으로도 정신이 없을 텐데 다양한 실내악에다 오케스트라 활동까지 그의 손이 미치지 않는 곳이 없다. 게다가 2007년에 강남역에서 벌인 “길거리 연주” 해프닝은 세인들이 폭발적인 관심을 끌어 인터넷 포털사이트 검색 1위에 오르기까지 했다. “오페라 아리아”와 “로망스”, “봄” 등 독특한 레퍼토리와 테마가 있는 독주회로 신선한 파장을 불러일으키더니 최근에는 브람스, 프로코피에프, 모차르트로 이어지는 소나타 전곡 연주회로 누구보다도 학구적인 모습을 보여주고 있다. 그런 중에 국내 대부분의 오케스트라와 수많은 협연무대를 가졌고, 특히 2004년 대한민국 국제 음악제의 개막공연에서 KBS교향악단과 협연한 브람스 협주곡으로 “대한민국 대표선수”라는 평가를 받기도 했다. 

스스로 “비르투오조” 콰르텟을 창단했는가 하면 한국페스티벌 앙상블과 하늠챔버앙상블 등 국내 정상의 실내악단들과 다양한 작업을 계속하고 있고 그가 몸담고 있는 성신여대 교수들과의 “성신 트리오” 활동은 물론 후학을 양성하는 일에도 맡은 바 소임을 다하고 있다. 최근에는 해외 활동에도 많은 관심을 두어 프랑스 연주자들과의 다양한 실내악 무대를 시도하는 중이고 독일의 라이프치히 유로 음악제, 프랑스의 퐁르브아 음악제, 플레인 음악제, 벨레바 음악제의 초빙교수로 활약하고 있다. 

독주와 실내악 활동만으로도 누구보다 앞서 있지만 피호영의 오케스트라 사랑은 남다르게 각별하다. 서울대 재학시절 이미 서울시향의 수석으로 입단했고 프랑스 국비장학생으로 6년의 유학을 마치고 귀국하자마자 코리안 심포니의 악장으로 부임하여 10년을 함께 했다. 독주자로 나선 이후에도 서울시향과 부천시향 등 국내 유수 오케스트라의 객원 악장으로 수없이 초빙되어 오케스트라 악장이라는 소임에 관한 한 독보적인 진가를 유감없이 발휘했고 마침내 세계 유명 오케스트라의 단원들을 모아 구성한 슈퍼월드 오케스트라의 유일한 한국인 단원으로서 로린 마젤, 베르나르트 하이팅크, 주빈 메타 등의 세계적인 지휘자와 함께하는 기회를 갖기도 했다.

약관 13세의 나이에 서울시향과 파가니니 협주곡을 협연하여 주목을 받기 시작한 피호영은 이화·경향 콩쿠르, 한국일보 콩쿠르, 중앙 콩쿠르를 차례로 석권하면서 벌써부터 차세대 선두주자로 나섰으며 서울예고와 서울대 음대를 실기수석으로 졸업하면서 프랑스 정부 국비장학생으로 도불하여 세계적인 여류 바이올리니스트 겸 교수인 미셀 오클레에게 사사, 파리 국립 고등음악원을 수석 졸업하였고 파리 에꼴 노르말 음악원 실내악 과정 또한 수석으로 졸업하였다. 세계적인 교수인 이고르 오짐의 부름을 받아 스위스 베른 국립음악원을 졸업하고 스위스 베른 심포니와 협연하였다. 성신여대 음대학장을 역임하였으며 중앙일보 선정 올해의 음악가, 한국 실연자협회 클래식 부문 대상을 수상하였고, 일찍이 5.16 민족상 음악부분 수상자로 선정되는 영예를 안기도 하였다. 현재 코리안심포니 오케스트라 이사와 DMZ 국제음악제 조직위원, 성신여대 교수로 활동하고 있다.

He is a small giant carrying the Korean violin community on his shoulders. By exploring every area that a violinist can do, he spends his time busier than anyone else in his field. Every year, recitals and collaborative performances alone can be hectic, but there are no place beyond his reach, including various chamber music and orchestra activities. In addition, the "street play" incident at Gangnam Station in 2007 attracted explosive attention from the public and even topped the Internet portal site search list. Solos with unique repertoires and themes such as "Opera Aria," "Romance" and "Spring" have created fresh waves, and recently, they have shown more academic appearance than anyone else with sonata concerts leading to Brahms, Prokofiev and Mozart. Despite the busy schedule, he has performed with most orchestras in Korea, and in particular, he was evaluated as a "Korean representative player" for his Brahms concerto with the KBS Symphony Orchestra at the opening performance of the Korea International Music Festival in 2004.

He founded his own "Virtuoso" quartet, and continues to work with top domestic chamber orchestras such as the Korean Festival Ensemble and the Hanum Chamber Ensemble and he is fulfilling his duties not only in the "Sungshin Trio" performing with professors at Sungshin Women's University, but also in training younger students. Recently, he has been interested in overseas activities and is trying to perform various chamber music stages with French performers, and is actively working as a visiting professor at the Leipzig Euro Music Festival in Germany, the Pongerva Music Festival in France, the Plain Music Festival, and the Belleva Music Festival.

He is ahead of anyone else with solo and chamber music activities alone, but Pi Ho-young's love for the orchestra is exceptional. When he was a student at Seoul National University, he had already joined the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra as a top dog, and as soon as he returned home from six years of study as a French state scholarship student, he was appointed as the first violin of the Korean Symphony and spent 10 years together. Even after becoming a soloist, he was invited numerous times as a guest conductor of leading domestic orchestras such as Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra and Bucheon Philharmonic Orchestra, showing his unrivaled value when it came to the task of orchestra first violin. He was the only Korean member of the Super World Orchestra, which gathered members of the world-famous orchestra, and had the opportunity to join world-class conductors such as Lorin Maazel, Bernard Heitink, and Zubin Mehta.

At the age of 13, Pi Ho-young, who collaborated Paganini Concerto with Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, won the Ewha-Kyunghyang, Hankook Ilbo, and Chung-Ang Competition, and graduated 1st in class at Seoul Art High school and Seoul National University’s College of Music, which earned him the opportunity to study abroad in France with government's state-funded scholarship. He graduated 1st in class from National Institute of Higher Music in Paris where he studied under Michele Olaire, and also graduated 1st in class from the Chamber Music course at the Ecole Normale Conservatory in Paris. He also studied at Bern Konservatorium in Switzerland under Professor Igor Ozim and collaborated with Swiss-Bern symphony. He served as the dean of Sungshin Women's University's College of Music, won the Music of the Year Award given out by Joongang-Ilbo, the Classic Award of the Korea Performers Association, and was earlier honored as the winner of the 5.16 National Award for Music. He is currently a director of the Korean Symphony Orchestra, a member of the DMZ International Music Festival, and a professor at Sungshin Women's University
