섬세하면서도 깊이 있는 음색과 진정성 있는 해석으로 청중의 마음을 사로잡는 바이올리니스트 변예진은 모스크바 중앙음악학교를 거쳐 16세에 모스크바 차이코프스키 국립음악원에 입학하였다. 이후 수석 졸업하였으며, 스위스 바젤 국립음대에서 석사과정 및 최고연주자과정을 최우수 성적으로 마치며 탄탄한 음악적 기반을 다졌다. 

어린 시절부터 뛰어난 음악성과 탁월한 기량을 인정받은 그녀는 성정콩쿠르, CBS콩쿠르, 안드레아 코르사코프 국제콩쿠르 등 국내외 유수의 콩쿠르에서 1위를 수상하였으며, DeMUCS 국제콩쿠르, 밀라노 아바도 국제콩쿠르, Yampolsky International Violin Competition 등에서도 입상하며 국제 무대에서 두각을 나타냈다. 또한 스위스 로잔시 선정 최고의 듀오 연주상을 수상하며 실내악 연주자로서의 역량 또한 인정받았다.

9세의 나이에 오케스트라와 첫 협연을 가진 이후, 그녀는 모스크바 심포니 오케스트라, 카프카스 필하모닉 오케스트라, 하바로브스크 필하모닉 오케스트라, 크라스노야르스크 필하모닉 오케스트라, 바젤심포니오케스트라, 우크라이나 하리코프 필하모닉 오케스트라, 군산시립교향악단 등 국내외 다수의 오케스트라와 협연하며 폭넓은 레퍼토리와 섬세한 음악 세계를 선보여왔다. 

또한 슬로베니아 타르티니 박물관 연주, 모스크바 스피바코프 국제문화재단 초청연주, 주 이스탄불 대한민국 총영사관 초청연주, 취리히 재클린하우스 초청연주 등 세계 각지의 무대에 오르며 활발한 연주 활동을 이어가고 있다. 국내에서는 예술의전당 리사이틀홀 독주회, 평창대관령음악제, 통영국제음악제, 부천아트센터 챔버뮤직시리즈, 마포문화재단 클래식축제, 송강음악회 등 다양한 무대를 통해 관객과 만나고 있으며, 깊이 있는 해석과 우아한 음악성으로 호평받고 있다. 

특히 실내악에 대한 남다른 애정을 바탕으로 활동 중인 그녀는 2020년 오디오가이 레이블 ‘울림프로젝트’에 선정되어 트리오 아티스트리의 첫 정규앨범 Mendelssohn & Dvorak을 발매하였으며, 섬세한 앙상블과 풍부한 음악적 호흡으로 주목받았다. 

스위스 상트갈렌 심포니 오케스트라 최연소 제2바이올린 수석을 역임한 변예진은 현재 평택대학교 겸임교수를 비롯해 중앙대학교, 선화예고, 계원예고, 충남예고, 인천예고에 출강하며 후학 양성에도 힘쓰고 있다. 이와 함께 연천DMZ국제음악제 교수진, 솔리드 챔버 앙상블 리더, 트리오 아티스트리 멤버, 소사벌챔버오케스트라 악장으로 활동하며 솔리스트와 실내악, 교육을 아우르는 폭넓은 음악 활동을 이어가고 있다.

Violinist Yejin Byun, admired for her delicate yet profound tone and sincere musical interpretation, captivates audiences with performances marked by depth and elegance. She studied at the Moscow Central Music School and entered the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory at the age of sixteen, later graduating at the top of her class. She went on to complete both her master’s degree and Advanced Performance Diploma at the Hochschule für Musik Basel in Switzerland with highest honors, establishing a solid foundation as a musician. 

Recognized from an early age for her outstanding musicality and exceptional technique, Byun has won first prizes at major competitions including the Sungjung Music Competition, CBS Music Competition, and the Andrea Korsakov International Competition. She has also received awards at the DeMUCS International Competition, the Milan Abbado International Competition, and the Yampolsky International Violin Competition, gaining recognition on the international stage. In addition, she was awarded Best Duo Performance by the City of Lausanne, Switzerland, further demonstrating her artistry as a chamber musician. 

Since making her orchestral debut at the age of nine, she has appeared as soloist with numerous orchestras in Korea and abroad, including the Moscow Symphony Orchestra, Caucasus Philharmonic Orchestra, Khabarovsk Philharmonic Orchestra, Krasnoyarsk Philharmonic Orchestra, Basel Symphony Orchestra, Kharkiv Philharmonic Orchestra of Ukraine, and Gunsan Philharmonic Orchestra. Through these performances, she has presented a wide-ranging repertoire and a refined musical voice.

Byun has also performed internationally at venues and events including the Tartini Museum in Slovenia, an invited concert by the Moscow Spivakov International Charity Foundation, a concert hosted by the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Istanbul, and an invited performance at Jacqueline House in Zurich. In Korea, she has appeared at the Seoul Arts Center Recital Hall, the PyeongChang Daegwallyeong Music Festival, Tongyeong International Music Festival, Bucheon Arts Center Chamber Music Series, Mapo Cultural Foundation Classical Music Festival, and Songgang Concert Series, earning acclaim for her profound interpretation and graceful musicality. 

With a particular passion for chamber music, Byun was selected for the Ullim Project by the Audioguy label in 2020 and released Trio Artistry’s first full-length album, Mendelssohn & Dvořák. The album drew attention for its delicate ensemble work and rich musical communication. 

Having served as the youngest Principal Second Violin of the St. Gallen Symphony Orchestra in Switzerland, Yejin Byun is currently an adjunct professor at Pyeongtaek University and teaches at Chung-Ang University, Sunhwa Arts High School, Kaywon High School of Arts, Chungnam Arts High School, and Incheon Arts High School. She is also active as faculty of the Yeoncheon DMZ International Music Festival, leader of Solid Chamber Ensemble, member of Trio Artistry, and concertmaster of the Sosabeol Chamber Orchestra, continuing a wide-ranging musical career as a soloist, chamber musician, orchestral leader, and educator.
