국내∙외 유수 오케스트라와의 꾸준한 협연, 독주회, 실내악 연주자로서 세계를 무대로 활발한 활동을 펼치고 있는 현존하는 한국 최고의 첼리스트 송영훈. 그는 완벽한 기교와 따뜻한 감성을 겸비한 한국 음악계의 대표 연주자이다.

솔리스트로서 잉글리쉬 챔버 오케스트라와 하이든 콘체르토 협연 실황을 녹음하였으며 그 외에도 뉴욕 챔버 오케스트라, 필라델피아 챔버 오케스트라, 타피올라 챔버 오케스트라, 앙상블 가나자와, 헬싱키 필하모닉 오케스트라, 핀란드 라디오 심포니 오케스트라, 도미니칸 내셔널 오케스트라, 요미우리 도쿄 심포니, 북체코 필하모닉 오케스트라, 야나첵 필하모닉 오케스트라, 뉴저지 심포니 오케스트라 등의 세계 유수의 오케스트라와 협연하며 국제 무대에서 폭넓은 활동을 이어가고 있다.

클래식 한류열풍의 대표주자로 손꼽히는 그는 가나자와 앙상블과 하이든 협주곡 C장조를 협연하였고, 도쿄 산토리홀에서 뉴재팬 필하모닉과의 드보르작 협연을 성공적으로 마쳤다. 일본의 민영방송 아사히 TV에서는 ‘daimeinonai ongakukai(다이메이노나이 온가쿠카이)’라는 프로그램을 통해 체코 야나첵 필하모닉 오케스트라와의 협연을 일본 전역에 방송하였다. 2013년부터는 매해 일본 현지에서 리사이틀 투어를 이어오고 있으며, 마에스트로 정명훈이 이끄는 아시안필하모닉오케스트라와 각지에서 성공적인 협연 무대를 가졌다. 2016년 5월에는 나고야, 도쿄, 오사카, 사가미코 등지에서 리사이틀을 개최하였고, 특히 일본에서 가장 아름다운 사운드와 유서 깊은 공연장으로 평가받는 키오이홀 무대에서 큰 찬사를 받았다.

독주회와 더불어 실내악 연주자로서도 활발히 활동하며 카네기홀, 링컨센터, 프랑크푸르트 알테 오퍼, 파리의 살 가보, 톤할레 취리히 음악홀, 핀란디아홀, 도쿄 산토리홀과 오페라시티, 그리고 영국의 위그모어홀 등 세계 주요 공연장에서 정명훈, 마르타 아르헤리치, 유리 바슈메트, 아르토 노라스 등과 같은 뛰어난 음악가들과 함께 무대에 올랐다.

2017년 6월에는 살아있는 전설로 불리는 첼리스트 아르토 노라스가 창설한 난탈리 페스티벌에 초청받아 연주하였으며, 일본 벳부의 아르헤리치 페스티벌을 비롯해 라인가우 페스티벌, 독일 메클렌부르크 페스티벌, 스위스 베르비에 페스티벌, 푸에르토리코의 카잘스 페스티벌, 포르투갈 마테우스 페스티벌, 영국 프러시아 코브, 하라레 국제페스티벌, 대관령 국제음악제, 서울 스프링 페스티벌 등 세계 각지의 주요 음악 페스티벌에 지속적으로 초청 받아 왔다.

2015년에 한 해에만 다섯 개의 리사이틀 프로그램, 아홉 개의 협주곡, 스물일곱 개의 실내악 작품을 연주할 정도로 왕성한 활동을 펼친 그는 ‘2015 송영훈 그레이트 퍼포머스 시리즈’를 기획하여 제57회 그래미상 독주 부분 수상 기타리스트 제이슨 뷔유, 일본 최고의 탱고 밴드 쿠아트로시엔토스, 그리고 세계적 첼리스트이자 스승인 아르토 노라스와의 듀오 콘체르토 무대를 선보였다. 또한 예술의전당 콘서트홀에서 하이든, 엘가, 드보르작 협주곡을 한 무대에서 연주하는 <세 개의 협주곡> 공연을 통해 음악적 역량을 증명하였다. 

그는 피아졸라 탱고 프로젝트 , 브라질 작곡가들의 레퍼토리로 기타리스트 제이슨 뷔유가 함께한 , 피아졸라의 음악과 탱고를 편곡해 온 파블로 징어, 클라리네티스트 호세 바예스테르와 트리오를 이루어 탱고를 이색적으로 해석해낸 , 피아니스트 안드리우스 질래비스와 함께한 앨범에 이어 일본의 옥타비아 음반사에서 (2013, 일본 옥타비아)를 발매하며 국제적인 음반 활동 역시 이어오고 있다.

송영훈은 9세에 서울시향과 랄로 협주곡 협연으로 데뷔한 후 서울시장 특별상을 수상하였고, 줄리어드 예비학교를 거쳐 줄리어드 음대, 영국 왕립 노던 음악원, 시벨리우스 아카데미를 졸업하였다. 2001년에는 대통령상을 수상했으며, 2002년에는 헬싱키 국제 파울로 첼로 콩쿠르 입상과 함께 한국을 대표하는 연주자로서 대한민국 문화홍보대사로 임명되었다. 

연주 활동과 더불어 ‘클래식 알리기’에도 힘써 예술의전당 ‘11시 콘서트’ 진행자와 경희대학교 음악대학 조교수를 역임하였고, 2015년부터 2024년까지 KBS 1FM ‘송영훈의 가정음악’ 라디오 프로그램을 진행하며 클래식 음악의 대중화에 크게 기여했다. 2025년부터는 일본 아마티 매니지먼트와 전속 아티스트로 계약을 체결하며 연주 활동과 음반 발매, 다양한 국제 페스티벌 무대를 통해 일본과 중국을 중심으로 활동 영역을 확장하고 있다. 이러한 행보 속에서 깊이 있는 해석과 진정성 있는 연주로 국내외 관객들과 꾸준히 호흡하고 있다. 

Cellist Young-Hoon Song is widely recognized as one of Korea’s foremost cellists, actively performing on the international stage as a soloist, recitalist, and chamber musician. Through his regular collaborations with leading orchestras in Korea and abroad, he has established himself as one of the most distinguished artists in the Korean classical music scene, combining impeccable technique with warmth and profound musical sensitivity.

As a soloist, Song recorded a live performance of Haydn’s Cello Concerto with the English Chamber Orchestra. He has also appeared with numerous internationally acclaimed orchestras, including the New York Chamber Orchestra, the Philadelphia Chamber Orchestra, the Tapiola Chamber Orchestra, Ensemble Kanazawa, the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Dominican National Orchestra, the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra, the North Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, the Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra, and the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, continuing to build a broad international career.

Regarded as one of the leading figures in the global rise of Korean classical musicians, Song performed Haydn’s Cello Concerto in C major with Ensemble Kanazawa and gave a highly successful performance of Dvořák’s Cello Concerto with the New Japan Philharmonic at Tokyo’s Suntory Hall. Japan’s TV Asahi broadcast his performance with the Czech Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra nationwide through its program Daimei no Nai Ongakukai (Untitled Concert). Since 2013, he has presented annual recital tours in Japan, and he has also appeared in successful performances with the Asian Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Myung-Whun Chung. In May 2016, he gave recitals in Nagoya, Tokyo, Osaka, and Sagamiko, receiving particular acclaim for his performance at Kioi Hall, one of Japan’s most historic venues, celebrated for its exceptional acoustics.

Alongside his recital career, Song is an active chamber musician. He has performed at major venues around the world, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the Alte Oper Frankfurt, Salle Gaveau in Paris, Tonhalle Zürich, Finlandia Hall, Suntory Hall and Opera City in Tokyo, and Wigmore Hall in London. He has shared the stage with eminent musicians such as Myung-Whun Chung, Martha Argerich, Yuri Bashmet, and Arto Noras.

In June 2017, he was invited to perform at the Naantali Music Festival, founded by the legendary cellist Arto Noras. He has also been a regular guest at major international festivals, including the Argerich Festival in Beppu, the Rheingau Music Festival, the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival in Germany, the Verbier Festival in Switzerland, the Casals Festival in Puerto Rico, the Mateus Festival in Portugal, Prussia Cove in the United Kingdom, the Harare International Festival, the Great Mountains Music Festival, and the Seoul Spring Festival.

In 2015 alone, Song performed five recital programs, nine concertos, and twenty-seven chamber works, demonstrating his extraordinary artistic vitality. That year, he curated the Young-Hoon Song Great Performers Series, presenting performances with Grammy Award-winning guitarist Jason Vieaux, Japan’s leading tango band Cuatrocientos, and his mentor, the world-renowned cellist Arto Noras, in a duo concerto program. He also demonstrated his remarkable musical range in Three Concertos at the Seoul Arts Center Concert Hall, where he performed concertos by Haydn, Elgar, and Dvořák in a single concert. 

Song has also pursued an active international recording career. His albums include a Piazzolla tango project; a recording featuring Brazilian repertoire with guitarist Jason Vieaux; a distinctive tango trio album with Pablo Zinger, known for his arrangements of Piazzolla’s music and tango works, and clarinetist José Ballester; and a recording with pianist Andrius Žlabys. He further expanded his discography with an album released by Japan’s Octavia Records in 2013.

Young-Hoon Song made his debut at the age of nine, performing Lalo’s Cello Concerto with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, and subsequently received a Special Award from the Mayor of Seoul. He studied at the Juilliard Pre-College before graduating from The Juilliard School, the Royal Northern College of Music in the United Kingdom, and the Sibelius Academy in Finland. In 2001, he received the Presidential Award, and in 2002, after becoming a prizewinner at the International Paulo Cello Competition in Helsinki, he was appointed a Cultural Ambassador of Korea. 

In addition to his performance career, Song has devoted himself to bringing classical music to wider audiences. He served as host of the Seoul Arts Center’s 11 O’Clock Concert and as an assistant professor at Kyung Hee University’s College of Music. From 2015 to 2024, he hosted KBS 1FM’s radio program Young-Hoon Song’s Home Music, making a significant contribution to the popularization of classical music in Korea. Since 2025, he has been an exclusive artist with AMATI Management in Japan, expanding his activities across Japan and China through performances, recordings, and appearances at international festivals. Through his deeply thoughtful interpretations and sincere artistry, he continues to connect with audiences in Korea and around the world.
